"Games like that happen," Vegas forward Jonathan Marchessault said. "Better to get it now than in the playoffs. I figure we just have to turn the page. I think we can be happy with our season, but there's a lot more to come."
The Golden Knights, who own the record for most wins by an NHL team in its inaugural season with 51, are the first NHL expansion team started from scratch to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in its inaugural season since 1967-68. No team that joined the NHL since 1991 advanced to the playoffs before its third season.
"Right from the start it's been a fun season," Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury said. "It's fun to be a part of this team and this organization through it all. I'm really proud of the way this team has done throughout the season. Playoffs are fun, intense, exciting. I'm looking forward to getting it going."
Cody Eakin scored, and Fleury made 12 saves for the Golden Knights (51-24-7), which lost its final two regular season games.
"We need to forget about it," Marchessault said. "There's a lot more to come."
Mark Jankowski scored four goals, Johnny Gaudreau, Garnet Hathaway and Spencer Foo scored, and Jon Gillies made 26 saves for Calgary (37-35-10), which went 2-9-0 in its final 11 games.

"It was a good way to end this year with the big win," Jankowski said. "At home and in front of our fans, we wanted to do that for our fans, they've been there for us all year."
The Flames have missed the playoffs in seven of the past nine seasons.
"We're going to use not playing in the playoffs as fuel in our guts this summer," Jankowski said. "It's going to be tough watching the playoffs this year."
Gaudreau gave Calgary a 1-0 lead at 4:03 of the first period, scoring off a cross-crease pass from Micheal Ferland.
Jankowski scored 10 seconds later to make it 2-0 on a one-timer off a 2-on-1. Jankowski extended the lead to 3-0 at 7:31, banking in a backhand off Fleury's pads.
Eakin scored 51 seconds into the second period to cut the lead to 3-1.
Hathaway finished a passing play with Curtis Lazar and Matt Stajan at 10:27 to make it 4-1, and Foo scored to push the lead to 5-1 at 12:02.
Jankowski scored a shorthanded goal at 18:06 to make it 6-1. Fleury was pulled following the second period and replaced by Malcolm Subban, who made 12 saves.
"Just trying to go hard to the net and it didn't take a lot of skill to get any of those goals," Jankowski said. "Just trying to go to the net, good things will happen if you put your stick on the ice."
Jankowski scored his fourth to make it 7-1 at 1:32 of the third period, getting a rebound a beating Subban from in close on the power play.

"You could tell right away [Jankowski] was feeling it," Flames captain Mark Giordano said. "He had the puck all night, it seemed like it was following him."

They said it

"We talked a lot to our guys about the emotion and the purity of the game. Just think about the young men on that bus who would love to be in the seats that we are. That was their goal, and we wanted to play as well as we can to honor that." -- Flames coach Glen Gulutzan
"When you play like that you're not mentally prepared to play, that's going to happen. I'm disappointed right now, but believe me, it's been a great season and it's going to have no effect on the next game on Wednesday. We got through the game. Nobody got hurt. That's the key for us."-- Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant
