VandeVelde suspended 2 games for elbowing

NEW YORK -- Philadelphia Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde has been suspended for two games, without pay, for elbowing Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews during NHL Game No. 1048 in Chicago on Wednesday, March 16, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 19:30 of the first period. VandeVelde was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, VandeVelde will forfeit $7,661.30. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
