Mike Brown Gretzky Rangers opener

Mike Brown wanted to see what his home looked like with a little bit of ice.

The New York Knicks coach was among many famous faces, including NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, who attended the New York Rangers home opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Brown earned a roaring ovation from fans in the stands as he was shown on the MSG video board. The coach pumped his fists in the air and mouthed “thank you” to the crowd in a video shared on social media.

In June, Brown led the Knicks to their first NBA Championship since 1973 when they defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games during the 2026 NBA Final.

Other celebrities in attendance included comedian Tracey Morgan, actor Christopher Meloni, actress Jamie Alexander and comedian Susie Essman who cheered on the Rangers during their 5-1 win against the Lightning.

They all witnessed history as Igor Shesterkin became the first Rangers goalie to score a goal.

Everyone wanted to be a part of Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.
