Devils GM Starter jacket

The New Jersey Devils know how to make a fashion statement and so does their new general manager.

On Tuesday, the team surprised Mehta with the same Devils Starter jacket he had as a kid before his introductory press conference at Prudential Center.

After being hired by the Devils on April 16, Mehta posted a picture of himself wearing the Devils jacket as a teenager.

“Fellow Devils Fans, Wake it up. Shake it out. Does anything still move you since you're educated now?... Do you believe there's still some magic left somewhere inside our souls?” Mehta wrote alongside the photo.

Mehta laughed and said, “Oh my God” when he opened up the box containing the jacket before the press conference on Tuesday.

He then put on the jacket, which was a perfect fit.

During his introductory press conference, Mehta talked about his old jacket and the moment with the Devils staff.

"I have no idea where that Starter jacket is, but we did a little meet and greet with the staff, the business staff earlier, and somehow, they found one on eBay and made me put it on," Mehta said. "So I'm just hoping nobody put that on Twitter, but I'm sure it's already there."

The Devils general manager grew up nearby in Wyckoff, New Jersey and played high school hockey. He spent the last six seasons in the Florida Panthers front office, including the last three seasons as the team’s assistant GM and director of analytics.
