Just because the puck is in the net doesn't mean you scored a goal.
Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov found that out the hard way on Saturday.
During a game against the Boston Bruins, Kaprizov one-timed a rocket from the right circle off a pretty pass from Wild captain Jared Spurgeon, and it went right into the net.
Just not the front of it.
Kaprizov fired the puck into the miniscule hole between the netting and the bottom trim work that protects against skates getting tangled in the net.
The crowd momentarily cheered, thinking their guy had scored and announcers on the broadcast thought that Bruins goalie Michael DiPietro had made a kick save on Kaprizov.
As referees went to retrieve the puck from the unusual spot, Kaprizov could only skate away with a wry smile.
