Sabres read good luck letters

The Buffalo Sabres put a stamp of approval on letters from their young fans.

Local school kids wrote good luck messages to the Sabres before their home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

In a video posted by the team, the Sabres read the letters that were taped to the walls outside their locker room.

“‘Doaner, I wish you and your teammates the best season ever. 91 forever,’” Sabres forward Josh Doan read from one letter before commenting that it was a “nice" message.

Another young fan hit a wide range of topics in his letter to Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin.

“'Thank you for playing for us. There is construction everywhere. My mom has a sourdough starter named ‘Dough-lin,’” Dahlin read in the video.

He then asked the video producer if it was a true story before calling the sourdough starter “sick.”

One kid had some lofty goals for Zach Benson, writing he hoped the forward scores 200 goals and doesn’t record a penalty this season.

“I like that too,” Benson said in response. “I’m going to try to do that, Cameron.”
