On Tap

There are four games on the NHL schedule on Friday, three with playoff implications.
Buffalo Sabres at Philadelphia Flyers (7 p.m. ET; SN1, NBCSP, MSG-B, ESPN+, SN NOW)
The Sabres (33-28-6) are trying to gain ground in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. They trail the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders, tied for the two wild cards into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, by six points. Buffalo has lost five of its past six (1-3-2). The Flyers (24-32-11) have lost four in a row and eight of their past nine games (1-7-1).
Carolina Hurricanes at Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, TVAS, TSN4, BSSO, SN NOW)
Each is looking for a win to get some breathing room in their respective division races. A win for the Hurricanes (44-14-8), who are first in the Metropolitan Division, would give them a three-point lead over the second-place New Jersey Devils with one game in hand. The Maple Leafs (40-18-9), second in the Atlantic, could take a three-point lead over the third-place Tampa Bay Lightning with a win.
St. Louis Blues at Washington Capitals (7 p.m. ET; NBCSWA, BSMW, ESPN+, SN NOW)
The Capitals (33-29-7) could move within three points of the Penguins and Islanders for the two wild cards in the East with a win. Washington is 5-9-1 in its past 15 games. The Blues (29-33-5) have lost two in a row and will be without goaltender Jordan Binnington, who was suspended two games for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct in St. Louis' 8-5 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.
