Crosby, a Pittsburgh Penguins center, will have his No. 87 retired by Rimouski of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Sept. 27.
In two seasons with Rimouski, Crosby had 303 points (120 goals, 183 assists) in 121 games from 2003-05. He was named Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year in each season. Rimouski is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season.
"Sidney is a great man, the best hockey player in the world, and still loves our city, our team, and our fans," Rimouski president Eric Boucher said. "Twenty-five years is a big moment in our history, and there is no better manner than this to begin that celebration."
Crosby was selected by the Penguins with the No. 1 pick of the 2005 NHL Draft and in 14 seasons the 32-year-old has helped them win the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016, 2017). He won the Hart Trophy twice as NHL MVP and the Art Ross Trophy twice as the League's leading scorer.
