Sharks complete the comeback in the shootout for win

ST. PAUL, Minn. --Steven Lorentz and Nico Sturm scored in the third period for the San Jose Sharks, who rallied for a 3-2 shootout win against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center on Sunday.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic had two assists, and James Reimer made 28 saves for San Jose (5-9-3), which has won two straight for the first time this season.
"We addressed it before the game that you know now. We won a game the other night (5-4 at the Dallas Stars on Friday), but we can't win a game and then drop three or four in a row again," Sturm said. "Now we got to start stringing some wins together if we want to push into that next echelon of teams and push for playoff spots. And that's hard, but I think we showed that when we play like we played in second and third today, we can play with teams like Minnesota."

The Sharks were 0-3 in the shootout entering Sunday.
"(It feels) pretty [darn] good," Sharks coach David Quinn said of the win. "Hasn't happened yet, obviously. Not only just the shootout, but we stuck with it. It was a tough first period.
"We could have easily got really down and packed it in after we went down 2-0, and we didn't. We kept coming. … Just really happy and proud of our guys. We really competed, and that was a gutsy win."
Frederick Gaudreau and Connor Dewar scored for Minnesota (7-6-2), which had won two in a row. Filip Gustavsson made 35 saves.
"I hate to say you get what you deserve or whatever, but we got what we asked for tonight," Wild coach Dean Evason said. "I don't know any other way to describe it. It was a dumb loss. We played so east, west, so cute. Not straight forward. All of the cliches. We didn't deserve to win that hockey game tonight."

Gaudreau gave the Wild a 1-0 lead at 6:45 of the first period. Kirill Kaprizov passed the puck low to Gaudreau, who curled around a poke check by Reimer before lifting a shot over the goaltender's left pad.
Dewar scored his first of the season to extend the lead to 2-0 at 3:37 of the third period. He finished a 2-on-0 short-handed breakaway with Mason Shaw after Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson lost an edge at the blue line.
"It hurts, but the guys stuck with me, we stuck with it, and we grinded out a two-point night," Karlsson said.

Lorentz cut it to 2-1 at 13:56, finishing his third shot after Gustavsson stopped his initial redirection and rebound attempt.
Sturm tied the game 2-2 at 15:49 with a shot from the top of the right circle through the legs of Jon Merrill.
"When you're up 2-0 with six or seven minutes left, that's got to be a game that we close out," Shaw said. " It's something that we're going to have to address, closing games out late. Not acceptable by our group, and we know that. Just learn from it."
NOTES:Sharks defenseman Radim Simek left after the first period with an undisclosed injury. There was no update postgame. … Sharks forward Timo Meier had his five-game goal streak end. … Minnesota had not allowed a goal in 140:32 before giving up the two in a span of 1:53.
