Penguins celebrate 50 years with documentary

The Pittsburgh Penguins are celebrating 50 years in the NHL with a two-hour, 45-minute documentary called "Pittsburgh is Home: The Story of the Penguins."

The Penguins released two trailers on social media featuring interviews from some of the franchise's biggest stars, past and present, including Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Jaromir Jagr, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury. Former coach Scotty Bowman and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman also appear in the film.
The film chronicles the Steel City's beginnings as a hockey town, Lemieux's anticipated arrival and the Penguins' four Stanley Cup championships.

"It's been an amazing process to work on a project that presents the history of our franchise in an entertaining, thought-provoking and compelling way," Penguins director of marketing and the film's director Leo McCafferty said in a press release.
The team is holding a screening for season ticket holders at PPG Paints Arena on Nov. 15. The documentary, narrated by actor, Pittsburgh native, and huge Penguins fan Joe Manganiello, will be shown at SouthSide Works Cinema in Pittsburgh from Nov. 18-22 with ticket proceeds benefitting the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. It will also air locally on ROOT Sports on Nov. 25. The film can be viewed online starting Nov. 28.
