Evgeni Malkin agreed to a four-year, $24.4 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. It has an average annual value of $6.1 million.

The 35-year-old forward, who could have become an unrestricted free agent at noon ET on Wednesday, had 42 points (20 goals, 22 assists) in 41 games this season, missing the first 34 games following offseason knee surgery. Malkin also had six points (three goals, three assists) in seven games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when the Penguins were eliminated by the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference First Round.
"Evgeni is a generational talent who will be remembered as one of the greatest players in NHL history," Pittsburgh general manager Ron Hextall said. "His hockey resume and individual accomplishments speak volumes about him as a player, and we are thrilled to watch him continue his remarkable legacy in Pittsburgh."
Selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, Malkin is third in Penguins history in goals (444), assists (702) and points (1,146), and second in games played (981) behind Sidney Crosby (1,108). He is also tied for 14th in NHL history with 180 points (67 goals, 113 assists) in 177 playoff games.

He has also helped Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016, 2017), including winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs in 2009.
With his new contract, Malkin will likely end his career in Pittsburgh with Crosby and Kris Letang.
