7 p.m. ET

Well, another Trade Deadline day is in the books. As expected, it was a wild one.
Several teams in the Metropolitan Division made plenty of noise,
as did the Edmonton Oilers
.
There were 32 trades involving 55 players. You can find the details at our
Trade Tracker
.
We are just getting started at NHL.com with analysis, reaction and insight from all over the League.

trade coverage right here

Thanks for following along.

5:59 p.m. ET

The Carolina Hurricanes are getting the help they need at defenseman.
They acquired Sami Vatanen from
the New Jersey Devils
and are wrapping up a trade with the New York Rangers for Brady Skjei. This after they acquired forward Vincent Trocheck from the Florida Panthers earlier on Monday.
This is big for Carolina, which was already without defenseman Dougie Hamilton, and then lost Brett Pesce indefinitely to a shoulder injury on Saturday.
They didn't get the goalie help they needed after Peter Mrazek and James Reimer each was injured Saturday, but they got some scoring punch and help on the back end.

5:55 p.m. ET

The
San Jose Sharks traded
forward Barclay Goodrow to the Tampa Bay Lightning and forward Patrick Marleau to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but Joe Thornton stayed put.
It's unclear what happened, but The Athletic reported Thornton was disappointed he wasn't traded. There were rumblings early in the day he could be headed to the Dallas Stars, but clearly that didn't come to pass.
So Jumbo Joe stays in San Jose.

4:45 p.m.

We are more than 90 minutes past the deadline, and several moves were just announced. To see all of them, check out our
Trade Tracker
.
That being said, we are waiting for official word on defensemen Brady Skjei from the New York Rangers and Sami Vatanen from the New Jersey Devils to the Carolina Hurricanes.

4:15 p.m. ET

After a crazy day, we are in a bit of a holding pattern an hour after the deadline has passed.
There are plenty of reports out there of the Carolina Hurricanes acquiring defenseman Brady Skjei from the New York Rangers and defenseman Sami Vatanen from the New Jersey Devils, but nothing official.
It also appears the Devils have traded goalie Louis Domingue to the Vancouver Canucks. There has not been an official trade announcement, but Canucks general manager Jim Benning said No. 1 goalie Jacob Markstrom is injured.
We do have a trade that was just announced, with the Los Angeles Kings sending defenseman Derek Forbort to the
Calgary Flames for a conditional fourth-round pick
in the 2021 NHL Draft.

3:40 p.m. ET

The trade between the
Buffalo Sabres and Penguins is official
, with forwards Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues going to Pittsburgh for forward Dominik Kahun. There could be several trades being announced even though we are past the deadline.
We are waiting for official word on goalie Robin Lehner going to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Chicago Blackhawks and defenseman Brady Skjei going to the Carolina Hurricanes from the New York Rangers.
As of now, we know the Penguins-Sabres trade is official.
Stay tuned.

3 p.m. ET

The deadline has passed, but there are rumored trades out there that have yet to be announced, including goalie Robin Lehner going to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Chicago Blackhawks.
If this comes down, Vegas will have one of the strongest sets of goalies in the NHL, if not the strongest, with Marc-Andre Fleury and Lehner, who was a Vezina finalist last season. Lehner is a UFA after this season.

2:45 p.m. ET

The Pittsburgh Penguins appear set to make another trade. The Penguins, who acquired forward Patrick Marleau from the San Jose Sharks earlier Monday, will acquire forwards Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues for forward Dominik Kahun, according to TSN.
Sheary was a member of the Penguins when they won the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017.
It's been quite an interesting 24 hours in the Metropolitan Division, with the New Islanders adding forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau, the Rangers agreeing to a contract with forward Chris Kreider, the Flyers trading for forwards Nate Thompson and Derek Grant, the Washington Capitals landing forward Ilya Kovalchuk on Sunday, and the Hurricanes acquiring forward Vincent Trocheck.
Let's see if anything comes down in the next hour or so.

2:30 p.m. ET

The Edmonton Oilers appear to be on the verge of another trade. According to TSN, they will acquire forward Tyler Ennis from the Ottawa Senators. Ennis has 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists) in 61 games this season.
If this trade comes to fruition, it would add to what's already been a strong day for the Oilers, who acquired defenseman Mike Green from the Detroit Red Wings early Monday and forward Andreas Athanasiou from the Red Wings in the afternoon.
The Oilers are clearly all-in in their attempt to win the Pacific Division and make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs behind Hart Trophy candidates Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

2:20 p.m. ET

We are less than an hour away from the deadline, and there are plenty of rumblings out there. Remember, not all trades have to be announced by 3 p.m.; they just need to be submitted to Central Registry by then, so it's likely trades will be announced long after the deadline.
Anyway, it's a big day so far, and there is certainly more to come.

2 p.m. ET

Jean-Gabriel Pageau will be a member of the New York Islanders for at least six more seasons after this one. The forward, who was traded the Islanders from the Ottawa Senators on Monday, signed a six-year contract. Financial terms were not release.
There are also reports the Islanders are working on trade for Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise, who has five years remaining on his contract.
We also have another trade, with forward Nick Ritchie going to the Boston Bruins from the Anaheim Ducks for forward Danton Heinen.
Ritchie has 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) and 78 penalty minutes in 41 games this season.
Heinen has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 58 games this season.

1:50 p.m. ET

We have our
second trade between the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers
on Monday.
The Red Wings traded forwards Andreas Athanasiou and Ryan Kuffner to the Oilers for forward Sam Gagner and a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. The Red Wings traded defenseman Mike Green to Edmonton for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional fourth-round pick in either the 2020 or 2021 NHL Draft. Kuffner is in the American Hockey League early Monday.
Anthanasiou has 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 24 games this season. He had an NHL career-high 30 goals last season and should give the Oilers some much-needed scoring depth. He can become a RFA at the end of the season.
Edmonton GM Ken Holland clearly knows what kind of players Athanaisou and Green are; he was GM of the Red Wings for 22 seasons before going to the Oilers on May 7.
Edmonton, which got center Connor McDavid back in the lineup Sunday, is second in the Pacific Division, three points behind the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Red Wings have been eliminated from postseason contention.

1:40 p.m. ET

Could a Joe Thornton reunion with Joe Pavelski be in the offing?
According to The Athletic, the Dallas Stars are making a push to acquire Thornton from the San Jose Sharks, and Thornton would be willing to go there. The report also said the Florida Panthers are looking to land Thornton.
Thornton, who has been with the Sharks since the 2005-06 season, is a pending UFA. Earlier Monday, TSN reported that even if Thornton left San Jose, he could re-sign there July 1.
Pavelski, who made his NHL debut with the Sharks in 2006-07 and played his first 13 NHL seasons with them, signed with the Stars as a free agent in the offseason.
Thornton has played 1,628 NHL games but has yet to win the Stanley Cup. Going to the Stars, who are in third in the Central Division, could give him a chance to do it.

1:20 p.m. ET

The New Jersey Devils, who traded Andy Greene to the New York Islanders and Blake Coleman to the Colorado Avalanche on Tampa Bay Lightning on Feb. 16, have traded forward Wayne Simmonds to the
Buffalo Sabres for a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft
.
Simmonds, who can become an unrestricted free agent after the season, has 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in 61 games. He joins a Sabres team that is eight points out of the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference and in danger of missing the playoffs for the ninth straight season.
The Devils are eight points behind the Sabres and clearly in sell mode. We'll see if anyone else is traded away from New Jersey before the deadline.

12:45 p.m. ET

We are less than three hours away from the deadline, and so far the Metropolitan Division has dominated the headlines.
The
New York Islanders acquired forward
Jean-Gabriel Pageau from the Ottawa Senators. The New York Rangers announced forward Chris Kreider,
a potential unrestricted free agent on July 1, agreed to terms on a seven-year contract.
The Pittsburgh
Penguins acquired forward
Patrick Marleau from the San Jose Sharks, and the Philadelphia Flyers acquired forwards Nate Thompson and Derek Grant in
separate transactions
on Monday.
This after the Washington Capitals acquired forward Ilya Kovalchuk on Sunday.
Now TSN is reporting the Islanders are working on deal to acquire forward Zach Parise from the Minnesota Wild. Stay tuned.

11:50 a.m. ET

Patrick Marleau is leaving the San Jose Sharks again, this time going
to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Marleau is the Sharks' all-time leader in games played (1,551). He played his first 19 seasons with the Sharks before signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs and playing there from 2017-2019. He re-signed with the Sharks on Oct. 9 after being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and released. He has 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 58 games this season.
The trade gives Marleau, a pending UFA, a legitimate chance to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career. He has played the most games (1,715) in NHL history without winning the Cup. His only trip to the Stanley Cup Final came in 2016, when the Sharks lost to the Penguins in six games.
The Penguins are two points behind the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division.
With Marleau gone, keep an eye on whether forward Joe Thornton gets traded by the Sharks too.

11:35 a.m. ET

Chris Kreider is staying with the New York Rangers. The forward, who could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1,
agreed to terms on a seven-year contract with New York
on Monday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
It was not all good news for the Rangers on Monday. They announced that goalie Igor Shesterkin and forward Pavel Buchnevich
were injured in a car accident on Sunday.
Shesterkin sustained a rib fracture that is nondisplaced and will be reassessed in a couple of weeks. Buchnevich was shaken up but did not sustain a significant injury and is listed as day to day.
Shesterkin, who made his NHL debut on Jan. 7, is 9-1-0 with a 2.23 goals-against average and .940 save percentage, and a big reason the Rangers are four points behind the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.

11:20 a.m. ET

The Montreal Canadiens made their second trade in the past two days, sending center Nate Thompson
to the Philadelphia Flyers for a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Thompson, who has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 63 games this season, can become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The Canadiens, who are eight points out of the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, traded forward Ilya Kovalchuk to the Washington Capitals on Sunday.
The Flyers also acquired forward Derek Grant from the Anaheim Ducks for forward Kyle Criscuolo and a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. The pick going to the Ducks will be the better of the Flyers' selection or a pick previously acquired from the Nashville Predators.
Thompson and Grant give the Flyers veteran forward depth they have been lacking all season. Grant could be the answer to the Flyers' season-long search for a third-line center while Nolan Patrick has been out since training camp because of a migraine condition.
The Flyers are three points behind the second-place Pittsburgh Penguins in the Metropolitan Division.

10:50 a.m. ET

Jean-Gabriel Pageau to the New York Islanders is official.
The forward is going from Ottawa to New York
for a conditional first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2020 draft and a conditional third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
The Islanders, who have a two-point lead over the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, paid a big price for the pending unrestricted free agent, who has 40 points in 60 games this season, including an NHL career-high 24 goals.
The Islanders have only one other player with more than 20 goals this season (Brock Nelson, 22), so Pageau is a big addition to a team that is averaging 2.84 goals per game, which is 22nd in the NHL.
Also, as reported earlier this morning by TSN, the Senators have traded forward Vladislav Namestnikov to the
Colorado Avalanche for a fourth-round pick in 2021 NHL Draft
.
It will be interesting to see what else the Avalanche do; they have been mentioned as one of the teams hoping to acquire Chris Kreider from the New York Rangers.
As for the Senators, with this trade and the Pageau trade, they have added a conditional first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2020 draft, conditional third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and the fourth-round pick in 2021.

NHL Network looks at the Islanders deal for Pageau

      10:30 a.m. ET

      Forward Vincent Trocheck
has been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes by the Florida Panthers
for forwards Erik Haula, Lucas Wallmark and Eetu Luostarinen and defenseman Chase Priskie. Priskie and Luostarinen are each in the AHL.
Trocheck, who has two seasons after this one remaining on a six-year contract, has 36 points (10 goals, 26 assists) in 55 games this season.
It was believed Carolina would seek help in goal and on defense after injuries over the weekend to goalies James Reimer and Petr Mrazek and defenseman Brett Pesce, but they went the forward route with Trocheck.
The Hurricanes are tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, four points ahead of the Panthers and New York Rangers.

NHL Network breaks down Vincent Trocheck to Carolina

          10 a.m. ET

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, perhaps one of the biggest names on the trade market this season, appears to be on his way to the New York Islanders.
TSN reported the two teams are finalizing a trade for the forward, who can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Pageau has 40 points in 60 games this season, including an NHL career-high 24 goals.
He should provide a needed scoring boost for the Islanders, who are 22nd in the League with an average of 2.84 goals per game. The Islanders have a two-point lead over the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.

The Senators also appear to be sending Vladislav Namestnikov to the Colorado Avalanche.
TSN is reporting the forward is being traded for a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Namestnikov, in his seventh NHL season and first with the Senators, has 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 56 games. He can become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The Avalanche are three points behind the St. Louis Blues for first place in the Central Division.
The Senators are second to last in the Eastern Conference.

          9:55 a.m. ET

Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau could be traded by the San Jose Sharks, and according to TSN that decision is up to them.
Marleau, the Sharks' all-time leader in games played (1,551), and Thornton, who is second (1,096), each is a pending unrestricted free agent. TSN says they would each have to agree to go to a contender for the opportunity to win the Stanley Cup, but could then re-sign with San Jose on July 1.
TSN also reported the Penguins have shown interest in Marleau, who has 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 58 games this season. The forward played his first 19 seasons with the Sharks before signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs and playing there from 2017-2019. He re-signed with the Sharks on Oct. 9 after being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and released.
Thornton, who has been with the Sharks since being traded to San Jose by the Boston Bruins during the 2005-06 season, has 27 points (four points, 23 assists) in 62 games this season.
Marleau, who is seventh in NHL history with 1,715 games played, and Thornton, who is 10th with 1,628, are the only two players in the top 10 of games played to have not won the Stanley Cup.

          9 a.m. ET

We are less than six hours from the deadline, and it's shaping up to be a busy day.
Two expected trade candidates changed teams, one on Sunday, and the other early Monday.
          First, forward
Ilya Kovalchuk was traded to the Washington Capitals
by the Montreal Canadiens for a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Then defenseman
Mike Green was traded to the Edmonton Oilers
by the Detroit Red Wings for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional pick in either to 2020 NHL Draft or 2021 NHL Draft.
The trade of Kovalchuk puts the forward on the same team as his friend and Russia countryman Alex Ovechkin.
Here's what Kovalchuk said about Ovechkin last month.
"First thing that comes to mind when I hear Ovechkin's name is how we first met. I think I was 14-years-old and he was 13. We were at a training camp in Yaroslavl,"' Kovalchuk said. "So, we know each other for a long time, we're friends, our families spend time together. He's a gold standard of a hockey player. A true role model for kids in Russia, America and anywhere in the world."
The Green trade could be the start of a busy deadline day for the Red Wings, who held Green and forward Andreas Athanasiou out of the lineup for their game against the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
As for Edmonton, captain Connor McDavid was thrilled with the addition of Green.
"It's exciting. I've been on the other side where you're losing friends to trade and all that, so it's nice to be on the other side where you're acquiring guys and trying to make a push," McDavid said. "I think Green's a great player, he's a veteran guy. He's been around a long time and moves the puck really well. I'm really looking forward to having him come and join."
Despite the Kovalchuk and Green situations being cleared up, there are plenty of issues to be resolved Monday:
          - Will the New York Rangers, who are four points out of the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, trade pending unrestricted free agent forward Chris Kreider or keep him in the hopes of reaching the postseason?
          - What will happen with some of the other high-profile pending UFAs like Chicago Blackhawks goalie Robin Lehner and Ottawa Senators forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau?
          - Will the Carolina Hurricanes try to acquire a goalie with James Reimer and Petr Mrazek each sustaining an injury on Saturday that led to
          emergency backup goalie David Ayres
having to play against the Toronto Maple Leafs?
          - Will the Maple Leafs, who are batting for a playoff spot in the Atlantic Division, add anybody to the roster?
          - How will the New Jersey Devils, who have already traded defenseman Andy Greene and forward Blake Coleman, approach the deadline?
          - Which teams in the Pacific Division, where the top five are separated by six points, will make a move to strengthen their playoff push?
It should be a wild day, and we will be here the whole time.
