NHL, NHLPA donate $200,000 to hurricane relief in Houston area

Money will be directed to American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity

NEW YORK/TORONTO - The National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) and National Hockey League (NHL) today announced a donation of $200,000 to the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity in support of relief efforts in Houston, Texas, and the surrounding areas.

The ongoing impact of Hurricane Harvey continues to cause immense damage. The donation to the American Red Cross will support shelters and the distribution of food and supplies. The donation to Habitat for Humanity will support the rebuilding of lost and damaged homes. Donated funds will be split equally between American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.
