NYI@STL: Parayko nets wraparound goal in overtime

ST. LOUIS -- Colton Parayko scored with 1:37 remaining in overtime to give the St. Louis Blues their sixth straight win, 3-2 against the New York Islanders at Enterprise Center on Thursday.

Parayko scored on a wraparound to win it after Vince Dunn tied the game 2-2 for the Blues with 1:44 left in the third period.
Parayko skated past Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier on the right side before tucking the puck in off goalie Thomas Greiss' right pad at the left post.
"I don't really get that close to the net all the time," the defenseman said. "I saw the opportunity, I guess, and just tried to wrap it."

Brayden Schenn scored for the third straight game for St. Louis (38-17-10), which leads the Colorado Avalanche by five points for first place in the Central Division.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Schenn said the Blues knew they had to be patient to break the Islanders' defensive structure.
"It almost seems boring at times," he said. "You have to keep grinding and chipping away and getting chances, and eventually, hopefully, one goes in, and that's what happened tonight."
Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored for the second straight game since being traded to New York (35-20-8), which has lost two in a row (0-0-2) but has earned at least one point in four straight (2-0-2).

Greiss made 29 saves for the Islanders, who are two points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
"I think we got on our heels a bit," New York forward Jordan Eberle said. "We lost some battles, and they're a good team. I guess you can say you got a point, but this late in the season, you want to try and get two. You take the one, but some things to correct, obviously."
The Blues outshot the Islanders 23-5 after the first period.
Dunn tied it with an unassisted goal when he beat Greiss with a one-timer from above the circles after New York's Ryan Pulock backhanded the puck from the right face-off dot.
"I honestly didn't know it went in until I saw everyone celebrating," the defenseman said. "It's great for me, but it's also great for the team."

Pageau, acquired from the Ottawa Senators on Monday, scored a power-play goal at 8:20 of the first period to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
Eberle made it 2-0 at 16:34. Mathew Barzal intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and passed ahead to Anders Lee, who set up Eberle for a deke and backhand past Binnington.
Eberle has five goals and two assists during a five-game point streak.
"At first, we tested [Binnington] a ton. We had a ton of chances," Eberle said. "I think it all just factors into playing on your heels a bit and waiting for them to do something."
Schenn got St. Louis within 2-1 with 55 seconds left in the first.
"That goal at the end was huge, and then we got a power play," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "We got a little momentum from that, for sure. They were more into it than us in the first. That's the bottom line."

They said it

"We'll take the point. ... It's disappointing we didn't get two, but we got one and every point is going to matter here. We'll see at the end of the whole process if this is the one that got away or if this is the one that got us in." -- Islanders coach Barry Trotz
"That's an experienced team, they try to wear you down until the end. I think we have to be happy about our effort, but we can't be satisfied." -- Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau
"We had different guys scoring goals, different guys getting put in different situations. It took everyone to win that game tonight, it wasn't just one guy. We had some big moments." -- Blues defenseman Vince Dunn
