Playoffs getting its fill of overtime games

NHL teams have been working overtime at a record pace during the second round of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Nashville Predators' overtime win against the San Jose Sharks in Game 6 of the Western Conference Second Round at Bridgestone Arena on Monday was the eighth game to extend into the extra time during the second round, the most since the 16-team format was introduced in 1980 and equaling a record accomplished twice (1996, 2001), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Seven of the 15 overtime games in the 2016 playoffs have been decided in the opening five minutes. The latest was won by Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson, who scored at 2:03 to even their best-of-7 Western Conference series against the Sharks and force Game 7 at SAP Center in San Jose on Thursday.
Arvidsson is the first Predators player to score his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal in overtime.

The second-round series between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders had consecutive overtime games at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Lightning won Games 3 and 4 in a five-game series win to advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the second straight year.
Home teams are 7-8 in overtime, but in the second round are 4-4.
