Ryan's emotional hat trick vs. Welcome back Lindblom

The 2019-20 NHL season had many incredible moments before it was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, and now fans can decide which one was the best.

The Greatest Moments of the NHL season … So Far is down to 32 entries from the original bracket of 64 with the first round now complete. Fans will vote on one matchup per day, ultimately deciding the greatest moment up until this point.

Fans can vote on Twitter and Instagram each day from noon until 10 a.m. ET the next day. Each day, the winner of that matchup will be revealed, and a new set of moments will go head-to-head.

Though fans will have the ultimate say, two NHL.com staffers will weigh in on the matchup each day to give his or her opinion on which one should advance to the third round.

In the matchup Saturday, Alex Ovechkin scoring his 700th NHL goal for the Washington Capitals defeated Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk being interviewed by his father.

The matchup Sunday is the final one of the second round, Bobby Ryan's hat trick in an emotional return to Canadian Tire Centre with the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 27 goes up against Philadelphia Flyers fans showing their support for Oskar Lindblom on Dec. 17.

This is a very compelling matchup with each entry highlighting the human element of sports. Lindholm, a 23-year-old forward, was recently diagnosed with cancer. Ryan, now 33, summoned the strength to ask for help. In Ryan's case, his hat trick sparked the Senators to a victory and pulled an already tight hockey community in Ottawa closer together. The greater good was Ryan's public profile as a professional athlete encouraging others who need help that it's OK to ask for it. The forward reached out to help himself and may have saved somebody's life by combining athletic achievement with a universally admired attribute called courage.

Yes, as Jon said, this is a tough one to choose and you're absolutely rooting for each player in his respective comeback. In Lindblom's case, he was getting the adulation of Flyers fans without even being in Wells Fargo Center that night. It's hard to watch, without getting teary-eyed, the replay of Flyers fans -- and Gritty -- standing up, cheering and holding "I Fight For Oskar" signs four days after Lindblom was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma. It was great to see Ryan make his comeback this season. Hopefully, we see Lindblom doing the same soon.
