Anthony Mantha, Darren Helm and Dylan Larkin scored for the Red Wings (25-27-11) and Petr Mrazek made 34 saves. Forward Henrik Zetterberg had two assists.
"They played [Friday] night [a 3-2 overtime loss at the Calgary Flames] and may have been a bit tired," McDavid said. "It was definitely not a perfect game. We made some mistakes and it almost cost us, but we found a way to win."
McDavid scored 1:41 into the first period to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.
Mantha tied the game at 15:04, taking a pass from Zetterberg in the slot and flipping a shot over Talbot.

Kassian gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead at 19:38, tipping a point shot by Larsson past Mrazek. David Desharnais also assisted on the goal for his first point in his debut with the Oilers. Desharnais was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Brandon Davidson.
"It's tough to play from behind against this team," Zetterberg said. "They're really skilled when they get their odd-man rushes. We were behind from the beginning, but Petr came up with some huge saves tonight."
Eberle scored at 6:58 of the third period to extend Edmonton's lead to 3-1. Eberle gained the Detroit zone, picked up the puck that bounced back to him, drove the net and took a backhand shot that beat Mrazek.
Helm made it 3-2 at 10:26, taking a long breakaway pass from Larkin and shooting through Talbot's pads.
"There are a couple of teams in the League that I know their character and leadership," said Oilers coach Todd McLellan, a former Detroit assistant. "I'm glad we're done with them. It was a tough night, not easy by any means."
Maroon scored at 14:02, taking a pass in front from Leon Draisaitl, to give Edmonton a 4-2 lead.
Larkin scored on a scramble in front with 35 seconds left and Mrazek pulled for an extra skater.

"I feel it's the story of our season," Helm said. "We've been close, we've had opportunities, we just haven't been able to score goals in a timely fashion. I think, for the most part, our effort has been there, we just haven't found ways to put pucks in the net."

McDavid collected the puck at center ice and sped past Red Wings defensemen Xavier Ouellet and Ryan Sproul before beating Mrazek.

They said it

"He's got a lot of gifts, he's got a lot of talents. Obviously you see his speed, you get to see his hands, his quickness, his smarts. He's a smart player out there. "I think we've earned the right to be confident based on how we've played and where we are in the standings. We feel that if we play the way we can we can beat any team in this League and dictate the play."-- Oilers forward Jordan Eberle

"We have to find a way to get out and not only weather the storm, but bring some energy and play a good road first period and get on the board first." -- Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin
