The Blackhawks are on their worst skid since they lost nine consecutive games from Jan. 21-Feb. 13, 2012. They are 2-8-2 in their past 12 games and have scored two goals or fewer in 11 of their past 14 games, including a 6-1 defeat at the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.
Chicago is 10 points behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup playoffs from the Western Conference.
With a victory Tuesday, the Golden Knights, 7-4-1 in their past 12 games, can become the third team in NHL history with 20 home wins in an inaugural season, joining the 1967-68 Los Angeles Kings (20 in 37 games) and 1979-80 Hartford Whalers (22 in 40 games).
Vegas is in first place in the Pacific Division and Western Conference.
