Dahlstrom, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (No. 51) of the 2013 NHL Draft. He remained in Sweden, playing for Linkoping of the Swedish Hockey League, until agreeing to a three-year contract with the Blackhawks on April 14, 2016.
After playing most of the next two seasons with Rockford of the American Hockey League, Dahlstrom made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on Feb. 10, 2018. He had his first NHL point, an assist, one week later.

Dahlstrom split the 2018-19 season between Rockford and Chicago, finishing with six assists in 38 games with Chicago, which signed him to a two-year contract on March 27, 2019. However, the Blackhawks placed him on waivers before the 2019-20 season and he was claimed by the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 1, 2019.
