The Carolina Hurricanes will try to build on their come-from-behind 3-2 win against the Florida Panthers on Sunday in the first of three consecutive road games, including two at Madison Square Garden. Carolina plays at the Boston Bruins on Thursday and comes back to the Garden to face the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Hurricanes won't have center Jordan Staal in the lineup. Staal is out indefinitely with a concussion and was placed on injured reserve Monday. Teuvo Teravainen moved to center to replace Staal and play with Sebastian Aho and Lee Stempniak. Phil Di Giuseppe is coming into the lineup after being recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Monday. Coach Bill Peters said he likes Teravainen at center better than on the wing. "I think for us he's going to be a center at some point long-term, I really believe that," Peters said. "He's a real smart player, very creative player. He's got another gear. You don't always see it, but he's got high-end speed. He's evasive. He's very good defensively. That's what allows him to play center and have the coach's trust, so I can play him against anybody. He's a smart player." Goaltender Cam Ward will start after backup Michael Leighton made 31 saves against Florida in his first NHL start since Jan. 27, 2013. Ward is 6-2-2 with a 1.58 goals-against average and .943 save percentage in November. Peters said Ward's success is a byproduct of how the Hurricanes are playing in front of him. "He's been better too, but I think they go hand in hand," Peters said. "I think it's a combination. I think the quality of chances is lowered. Our breakdowns at the start of the year were big breakdowns and we gave up high quality scoring chances against. We've cut back on those."
