TOR

The Toronto Maple Leafs completed the second sweep of a three-game trip through California in their history when defenseman Morgan Rielly scored at 3:17 of overtime for a 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday.

The only other time Toronto swept the three games was Dec. 14-17, 1995.
The Maple Leafs (14-6-0) have won 14 of their first 20 games for the fifth time in their history and the first since going 14-6-0 to start the 1941-42 season. The other instances: 1933-34 (14-3, three ties), 1934-35 (15-4, one tie) and 1940-41 (14-5, one tie).

Rielly leads all defensemen in goals (nine) and points (25). He is the fourth defenseman in Maple Leafs history to have at least 25 points through Toronto's first 20 games in a season. The others: Harry Cameron in 1917-18 (27 points; 17 goals, 10 assists) and 1921-22 (26 points; 11 goals, 15 assists); Babe Pratt in 1943-44 (25 points; 10 goals, 15 assists); and Bryan McCabe in 2005-06 (27 points; eight goals, 19 assists).
It was also a night to remember for Maple Leafs forward Patrick Marleau. He scored the 539th goal of his NHL career in the first period, passing Keith Tkachuk for sole possession of 32nd place.

Sixty minutes not enough

Five of the six games played Friday required more than 60 minutes to determine a winner. It's the third time in NHL history a six-game day had five games require overtime; the others were Nov. 18, 2003, and March 9, 2016.

In all, 67 of the 291 games (23.0 percent) played this season have required extra time. Of those 67 games, 45 (67.2 percent) have been decided in overtime. That's the highest such percentage in a season since the NHL implemented the shootout in 2005-06.

O'Reilly, Skinner thriving with new teams

Offseason acquisitions Ryan O'Reilly and Jeff Skinner continued their strong starts with their new teams.
O'Reilly, a center acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres on July 1, scored two goals for the St. Louis Blues in a 4-1 win at the Vegas Golden Knights. He has at least one point in 11 of his past 12 games and leads the Blues with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 17 games.
O'Reilly has scored or assisted on 23 of the Blues' 56 goals this season (41.1 percent); Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid owns the highest percentage of team goals factored into among all players this season (50 percent; 26 of 52).

Skinner scored the tying goal, and forward Conor Sheary got the winner in the shootout to give the Sabres a 2-1 win at the Winnipeg Jets. Buffalo has won four in a row, the longest active winning streak in the NHL.
The 26-year-old forward, acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on Aug. 2, extended his goal streak to four games with his 400th NHL point. He leads all NHL players in goals since Nov. 1 with eight and is the first Buffalo player to score at least eight goals in November since Thomas Vanek had nine in 13 games in November 2008.
