The Truro Peewee C Orange Bearcats were expecting to have a year-end video chat with teammates. What they weren't expecting was for Brad Marchand to join.

The Boston Bruins forward hopped on the team's season-end Zoom call and addressed the kids, who were disappointed their season ended prematurely due to concerns over the coronavirus and still processing a tragic shooting in Nova Scotia last weekend.

All of Nova Scotia's youth hockey teams had year-end calls planned as part of their "Hockey Comes Together" event. Jill Saulnier, a forward for the Canada Olympic women's ice hockey team, joined the Cape Breton Blizzard's team call.

A video clip of Marchand joining his call was shared by Hockey Nova Scotia.

Marchand joked around with the young players right off the bat, specifically calling out a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey and Montreal Canadiens hat.

"I see lots of Bruins swag and then a couple guys that didn't get the memo with the Toronto jersey, and I think I saw a Montreal hat," Marchand said.

Marchand addressed the team, saying he was sorry their year ended early but congratulated them on a great season.

"I'm happy to be a part of your year-end party, pretty cool for me," Marchand said. "It's been a long time since I had the opportunity to be part of a year-end party like this."
