Andersen makes 38 saves, Maple Leafs top Bruins

TORONTO -- Frederik Andersen made 38 saves for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 4-2 win against the Boston Bruins at Scotiabank Arena on Monday.

"We just tried to play our game, we can't really worry about who they have in the lineup or don't," Andersen said about the Bruins missing several regular players, including forward Patrice Bergeron, and defensemen Zdeno Chara, Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo. "We want to play our game, that's the way we've been successful and I thought we did a good job today."

Igor Ozhiganov scored his first NHL goal, and Mitchell Marner had three assists for Toronto (17-8-0), which has won two straight and nine of its past 12 games (9-3-0). Patrick Marleau played in his 1,600th NHL game, becoming the 11th player in history to do so.
"It was a tough game against these guys like it always is, but I think we played well," Maple Leafs defenseman Travis Dermott said. "We worked hard from the start of the game to the end, but [Andersen] made some stops that helped us out and overall, I think we can be pretty happy with this game."

David Pastrnak scored twice, Torey Krug and Brad Marchand each had two assists, and Jaroslav Halak made 27 saves for Boston (13-7-4), which had a five-game point streak end (3-0-2).
"The first period they were better than us," Pastrnak said. "Something was said in the locker room (in the first intermission), and after that we played kind of our game and battled hard. Unfortunately, we came up short, but it's a hard loss. Toronto is a good team, and we knew it wouldn't be easy."
Josh Leivo gave the Maple Leafs a 3-2 lead at 18:38 of the second period on the power play, scoring on a rebound in the slot off Tyler Ennis' initial shot.
Zach Hyman scored into an empty net at 18:25 of the third period to make it 4-2.

Dermott gave Toronto a 1-0 lead at 17:44 of the first period. Following a turnover by Pastrnak, Marner got the puck along the left wall and passed to Dermott, who skated in from the blue line and beat Halak glove side.
Pastrnak tied it 1-1 at 3:39 of the second period, scoring on a one-timer at the bottom of the left circle off a pass from Marchand on the power play.
Ozhiganov scored at 13:06 of the second period to make it 2-1. He took a pass from Marner from behind the net and beat Halak glove side from the left circle.
"Honestly, I couldn't focus, couldn't hear anything," Ozhiganov said. "I was so emotional. I've been waiting for it for so long and it finally happened. My childhood dream came true. I'm going to keep the puck at home with all my other trophies."
Pastrnak tied it 2-2 at 14:22 when he took a pass from Krug in the low slot and scored into an open net after Andersen was caught moving in the wrong direction.
"I think for the most part we battled hard," Halak said. "The second period was our best period; we had some chances and hit some posts. Just no excuse though, we lost tonight. We need to regroup and win the next one."

Need to know

Marleau has played in 731 consecutive games. He has not missed a game since April 7, 2009. … Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller left the game after a shot from John Tavares at 17:44 of the first period ricocheted off his stick and hit him in the throat. Cassidy said X-rays are negative and he is out of danger, but he will remain in the hospital overnight for observation to make sure his breathing stays normal. … Marner is second in the NHL with 27 assists, one behind Mikko Rantanen of the Colorado Avalanche.
