In the spot, Matthews, who is from Scottsdale, Arizona, is shown entering the athletic facility and grabbing a custom-made No. 34 jersey with his name on the back. Matthews takes to the ice to try out the new look, which is, objectively, pretty great. The jersey in the ad is the Gold Heritage adizero by adidas.
Perhaps inspired by his new gear, Matthews does a few tricks with the puck before he is interrupted by Sun Devils equipment manager Jon Laughner.
Secrets out...@SunDevilHockey is throwing it back this year. Thanks to my buddy @AM34 for his help. Needed the best player in the game to to reveal the best jersey in college hockey. pic.twitter.com/wVApcDKxnk
Eddie Lack, a veteran of five NHL seasons who recently joined the Arizona State staff as a volunteer goaltending coach, clearly liked Laughner's acting.
