TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Christy Brown as the 21st Lightning Community Hero this season during the first period of tonight's game against the Florida Panthers. Brown, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil, will donate the money to PlacementWorks.

Early in her life, Christy became inspired to assist those with disabilities and who face obstacles due to health issues. In 2003 she founded PlacementWorks, an organization that's dedicated to assist Tampa Bay's disabled community with employment training, helping them build their skills and confidence, and connect with job opportunities.
Through her work at PlacementWorks, Christy also helps steer local businesses to engage with and consider disabled employees, ensuring they are valued and welcome. To date, Christy and PlacementWorks have helped more than 7,000 disabled individuals find meaningful employment, helping them live more independent lives.
Brown becomes the 432nd Lightning Community Heroes since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $22.55 million to more than 750 different nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2016, the Viniks announced that the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
