Let’s look at the game “by the numbers.”

  • On the game as a whole, Seattle generated more shots (54.76%) but less shot quality (39.84%) than their opponent in 5-on-5 play. The second period was their strongest in regulation and they dominated overtime with seven shot attempts allowing just one against, but that one unfortunately got into the net.
  • The game was really a tale of two halves – the first 30 minutes were all Tampa Bay, the second were controlled by the Kraken. More than half of the Lightning’s rush chances came in the first period as did three of their eight scoring chances off turnovers.
  • In the first period, Tampa Bay got to all the loose pucks winning 100-percent of those battles, but the Kraken fought back to end the game with the edge in possession with 57.9-percent battles won.
  • With the first goal of the game, Oliver Bjorkstrand earned his 300th NHL career point. He is the fifth player from Denmark to achieve that milestone. The other four are: Frans Nielsen (473); Nikolaj Ehlers (406); Lars Eller (378) and Mikkel Boedker (327).
  • Bjorkstrand led his team in offensive zone possession time, rush chances, controlled zone exits, and individual shot quality.
  • Philipp Grubauer left the game after 40 solid minutes of play in net. His effort was good enough to earn him his seventh quality start of the season.
  • The Matty Beniers line was again the most successful in underlying performance – they controlled play in 10:43 of ice time they created a 20-8 shot attempt advantage and generated 59-percent of all shot quality.
