Originally selected in the second round (45th overall) by St. Louis in the 2018 NHL Draft, Perunovich has 30 helpers and 32 points (2-30=32) in 108 career regular-season NHL games between the Blues (2021-22, 2023-25) and New York Islanders (2024-25). In his junior, and final year with the program, Perunovich was awarded the Hobey Baker Award after finishing the season tenth in the nation in scoring and second among all NCAA defensemen. His 34 helpers led all blueliners and was the second-most in the NCAA. While at Minnesota-Duluth, Perunovich also earned the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Best Offensive Defenseman and First All-Star Team honors in each of his three years. Before the college ranks, Perunovich appeared in 56 games for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

A native of Hibbing, Minnesota, Perunovich represented Team USA at two IIHF tournaments, including the 2023 Men’s World Championship and 2018 Men’s World Junior Championship (bronze).
