After a four-game road trip, the Kings returned to Los Angeles for a brief home game against the rivaled San Jose Sharks. In what is the first of a home-and-home against San Jose, the Kings grabbed a point last night to extend their point streak to four games but ultimately fell in extra time after surrending a 3-1 lead.
After allowing the first goal of the game at the 2:39 marker of the first period, the Kings responded quickly with contributions coming from the team's hottest line as Trevor Moore set up Phillip Danault for his 17th goal of the season, evening the game at one a piece just six minutes into the game. Just eight seconds later, Andreas Athanasiou gave the Kings a one goal lead when the winger ripped home a wicked wrister from the top of the circles on the left wing side of the ice beating the goalie glove side.
The Kings third and final goal of the game again came from the team's second line. This time on the penalty kill, Phillip Danault set up Trevor Moore for a wide open shot in the slot as the Thousand Oaks native buried his 11th goal of the season, third point of the game and team-leading 29th point over the past 27 games dating back to January 1st, 2022.
The Kings went on to allow three unanswered goals including the overtime winner.
Jonathan Quick stopped 26 of 30 Sharks shots.
