Following the 11-goal affair in Calgary on Monday, the Kings went into Edmonton on Wednesday night and silenced the top two scorers in the NHL in route to a 3-1 victory.
The Kings and Oilers faced off for the first time this season since LA was ousted by Edmonton in seven games in the first round of the 2022 NHL playoffs last May. After last night, it's fair to say that animosity and tensions are still high between the two teams. The low scoring tilt did begin with an early goal from the stick of Trevor Moore, who ripped a slap shot by the blocker of Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner.
Throughout the night, the Kings frustrated Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and co. by locking down the defensive zone. In total, the Kings blocked a season-high 29 shots. Notably, the Kings successful execution of a defensive zone game plan snapped multiple double-digit point streaks on the Oilers side; McDavid 10 games (10-12=22), Draisaitl 11 games (7-13=20).
The Oilers did even the game at 1-1 just past the midway point of the game, but thanks to Moore's second goal of the night the Kings regained the advantage. Moore's night to remember would continue when the Thousand Oaks, California native potted his first career NHL hat trick on the empty net goal.
Cal Petersen made the start for the Kings and picked up his second consecutive win for the club, stopping 22 of 23 shots faced.
