The Kings fell 5-2 to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena, snapping a three-game winning streak. With the New Jersey win, the Devils improved their road record to an NHL best 17-2-1.
The Kings kicked off the game's scoring with a power play goal 6:32 into the first period when Adrian Kempe set up Kevin Fiala beautifully for his 16th tally of the season. With the primary assist, Kempe reached the 30-point mark for the fourth time in his career. Two Devils goals would follow the Fiala tally giving the away team the lead early in the second period. Knotting the game at 2-2 just under seven minutes into the middle stanza was Anze Kopitar on the power play, who tipped in a Drew Doughty point shot. With the assist (0-2=2), Doughty recorded his 111th career multi-point game, tying Rob Blake for most multi-point outings by a defenseman in franchise history. In doing so, Doughty extended his point streak into a third game (1-4=5).
Unfortunately, just 52 seconds after the Kings game-tying goal, the Devils retook the lead with a Nikita Okhotiuk wrist shot, scoring what would eventually be the game-winning goal. A third Devils goal of the second period would follow and an empty net goal with 1:04 remaining in the game would seal the victory for New Jersey.
Jonathan Quick returned to the net for the Kings, stopping 23-of-27 shots.
