August 25, 1997:Mariusz Czerkawski was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Dan LaCouture. Czerkawski, nicknamed "The Polish Prince," played six seasons for the Islanders (1997-2002, 2003-04), racking up 295 points (145G ,150A). Czerkawski hit career-highs of 35 goals and 70 points in the 1999-2000 season, while also being named to the NHL All-Star Game. He is 23rd on the Isles all-time scoring list.
