Randy Boyd played parts of two seasons for the Islanders from 1985-87. The defenseman totaled 85 games over two years, racking up 38 points (9G, 29A) over that span. Boyd set a career-high with 24 points (7G, 17A) in 30 games with the Islanders in the 1986-87 season, playing an additional 48 games with the Islanders' American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Indians.
The Coniston, ON, native came to the Islanders from Chicago via Waiver Draft and exited the team in the same way, being selected in the Waiver Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.
Boyd was known for his old school and hard-nosed play and totaled 257 NHL games between the Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Black Hawks. Additionally, Boyd played 116 games in the AHL and 191 games in the International Hockey League. After hockey, he took to coaching youth hockey players in the Atlanta Fire organization.
