ISLES W OVER PIT

The New York Islanders earned a critical two points in a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night, leapfrogging their Metropolitan Division foes for the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Brock Nelson (2G), Bo Horvat (1G, 1A) and Anders Lee (GWG) powered the offense for the Islanders, while Jake Guentzel and Jason Zucker recorded the pair of goals for the Penguins. Zach Parise handed out two assists in the win.
Ilya Sorokin made 44 saves in the victory at PPG Paints Arena. Tristan Jarry made 28 saves in his return from injury.

THE SCORING:
1st Period:
6:12 - PIT 1, NYI 0 - Rushing down the ice on a three-on-three, the Penguins top line creates a passing sequence that leads to Pittsburgh's first goal. Jake Guentzel tips in a backdoor feed from Sidney Crosby, with Rickard Rakell tallying the secondary assist.
2nd Period:
5:19 - PIT 1,NYI 1 - Brock Nelson keeps, holds, and snipes one past Tristan Jarry to even the score at one apiece. Zach Parise collects the only assist.

12:26 - PIT 2, NYI 1 PPG - Kasperi Kapanen sends a cross-ice pass to Jeff Petry, whose slap shot from the point ricochets off the post. Jason Zucker collects the loose change and jams the puck past Ilya Sorokin to recover the lead.
3rd Period:
8:34 - PIT 2, NYI 2 - Bo Horvat scores on a sharp-angle wrist shot to even the score in the third frame. Hudson Fasching picks up the sole assist.
