QUICK NOTES:
  • The Islanders and Hurricanes are meeting for the fourth and final time this season
  • The Islanders are looking to halt a two-game losing streak
  • John Tavares and Mathew Barzal will be paried together on the top line
LINEUP NOTES:

UPDATE: Jaroslav Halak in goal. Sebastian Aho in for Brandon Davidson. Chris Wagner is also in for Ross Johnston, who is dealing with some soreness.
The other lineup note ahead of Sunday's game is that John Tavares and Mathew Barzal will play together on a line, as Weight pairs his top two centers and points leaders on the Islanders. Tavares and Barzal will play with Jordan Eberle, as Weight wants to see what his top two forwards can do together.
"They had some good looks and seemed to bring some life to the team a little bit," Weight said after playing them together briefly in Washington. "It's an experiment and if nothing else moving forward get them some experience together."

With Tavares and Barzal both being natural centers, Tavares shifted to the left wing at Saturday's practice. Tavares has some experience playing on the wing, namely during the 2012 lockout and on the 2014 Canadian Olympic team.
"It's not my natural position, but I've played it before. I've got a lot of versatility with my game to begin with," Tavares said.
The Islanders captain said he's also comfortable playing with the free-wheeling Barzal.
"I have a good sense of his game now, I obviously know him for close to a full season and have played with him on the power play," Tavares said. "I have a sense of what makes him really good, dynamic and be able to make plays, so just read off it, make plays myself and capitalize on our chances."
With the changes, Anthony Beauvillier will shift back to his natural position as he becomes the pivot between Anders Lee and Josh Bailey. Beauvillier has largely played left wing this season for the Islanders
"He's done a lot of good things this year since coming back," Weight said of Beauvillier. "He's got the ability at a young age to either play in the middle or the wing and make some people better around him and coulee be a good compliment with that speed with Anders and Bails."

SEASON SERIES:

The Islanders are 2-1-0 against the Hurricanes this season. They took the most recent meeting 3-0 on Feb. 16 on the back of Thomas Greiss' 45-save shutout. The Isles have won four of their last five and six of their last 10 against the Canes.

THE HURRICANES:

Last Game:L 4-2 vs Philadelphia
Leading Scorers:
Goals:Sebastian Aho - 25
Assists:Teuvo Teravainen - 36
Points:Teuvo Teravainen - 57
Carolina has lost three straight and five of six heading into Sunday's contest. The Hurricanes are wrapping up a back-to-back after a 4-2 loss against Philadelphia down in Raleigh.
Hurricanes leading scorer Teuvo Teravainen is riding a four-game point streak (2G, 3A), as is leading goal scorer Sebastian Aho (2G, 3A).
Cam Ward played against the Flyers on Saturday night, so there's a good chance Scott Darling could start on Sunday.
