From the home arena split to Ranger game days, 10 takeaways from the Islanders 2019-20 schedule

The NHL released the schedules for all 31 teams on Tuesday afternoon, so Islanders fans can now plan their falls, winters and springs accordingly. 

Check out the full schedule here, but if you need a cheat sheet, NewYorkIslanders.com broke down the Islanders 2019-20 schedule and offered up 10 key takeaways. 


1.   COLISEUM/BARCLAYS SPLIT: 

The Islanders will play 21 games at NYCB Live, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and 20 games at Barclays Center. The Islanders will open and close the season at the Coliseum, beginning the season on Fri. Oct. 4 against Washington and ending it on Sat. April 4 against New Jersey.


2.   LONGEST HOMESTAND:

The Islanders longest homestand will be four straight games from Nov. 5-13.

  • Tues. Nov. 5 vs Ottawa (Barclays Center)
  • Thurs. Nov. 7 vs Pittsburgh (Barclays Center)
  • Sat. Nov. 9 vs Florida (Barclays Center)
  • Wed. Nov. 13 vs Toronto (NYCB Live)

The Islanders will start the season with 12 of their first 17 games at home. 



3.   LONGEST ROAD TRIPS: 

The Islanders longest road trip will be a pair of four-gamers this season from Feb. 13-19 and Mar. 10-15.

The Feb. 13-19 trip runs through: 

  • Thurs. Feb. 13 at Nashville
  • Sat. Feb. 15 at Vegas 
  • Mon. Feb. 17 at Arizona
  • Wed. Feb. 19 at Colorado

The Mar. 10-15 trip runs through:

  • Tues. Mar. 10 at Vancouver
  • Thurs. Mar. 12 at Calgary
  • Fri. Mar. 13 at Edmonton
  • Sun. Mar. 15 at Pittsburgh

The Islanders California trip will take place on Nov. 23-27. The trip starts in San Jose (Nov. 23), before heading to Anaheim (Nov. 25) and wraps up in LA (Nov. 27). 

While not officially the longest trip of the season, the Isles will play 10-of-13 games on the road from Nov. 16 to December 12. They will also play six-of-seven games on the road from Feb. 8-19.


4.   RANGER GAMES: 

The Islanders will take on their archrivals on three times in eight days in January, as well as once in February. 

  • Mon. Jan 13 at MSG
  • Thurs. Jan. 16 at Barclays Center
  • Tues. Jan. 21 at MSG
  • Tues. Feb. 25 at Barclays Center

The Islanders are 7-1-0 against the Rangers in Brooklyn. 


5.   PLAYOFF REMATCHES:

The Islanders first game against the Pittsburgh Penguins will be on Nov. 7 at Barclays Center. The Isles first game against the Carolina Hurricanes will be on Oct. 11 at PNC Arena in Raleigh, as they look to exact a little revenge after last season's second-round playoff series. 


6.   CHRISTMAS AT THE COLISEUM: 

All five of the Islanders home games in December will be played at NYCB Live. The Islanders final game before the Christmas break will be on Dec. 23 vs Columbus and they return from the break on Dec. 27 in Chicago. 



7. DAY GAMES: 

The Islanders will play seven 1 p.m. matinee home games this season, five at NYCB Live and two at Barclays Center. 

  • Mon. Oct. 14 vs St. Louis (NYCB Live)
  • Sat. Nov. 9 vs Florida (Barclays Center)
  • Sat. Dec. 14 vs Buffalo (NYCB Live)
  • Sat. Dec. 21 vs Anaheim (NYCB Live)
  • Sat. Jan. 18 vs Washington (NYCB Live)
  • Sat. Feb. 1 vs Vancouver (Barclays Center)
  • Sat. Mar. 7 vs Carolina (NYCB Live)

The Islanders will also host a pair of Sunday 5 p.m. starts against San Jose on Feb. 23 at the Coliseum, as well as March 22 against Carolina at Barclays Center. 


8.   BACK TO BACKS:

The Islanders will play 11 back-to-back sets this season. The Islanders had 13 back-to-backs last season.

9.   STANLEY CUP CHAMPS: 

The Islanders will host the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues on Monday, Oct. 14 at NYCB Live. The Isles will head to St. Louis on Feb. 27. 


10.   ALL-STAR BREAK: 

The NHL All-Star break will be on Jan. 24-26. Between all-star and the team's bye week (dates not yet confirmed) the Islanders will be off between Jan. 21 (at NYR) and Feb. 1 (vs. Vancouver).
