BUFFALO - For the third time in as many years, the Carolina Hurricanes turned their first-round pick into multiple assets, moving the #31st overall selection to the Nashville Predators on Friday night in exchange for selections #42 and #57, both second-round selections, in this year's NHL draft.

The Canes now have five picks on Saturday's second day of the event.

  • Round 2, #42 Overall (from Nashville)
  • Round 2, #57 Overall (from Nashville)
  • Round 4, #105 Overall (from San Jose)
  • Round 6, #165 Overall (from Toronto)
  • Round 6, #192 Overall

In 2024, the Canes acquired Chicago’s second-round pick (Dominik Badinka) and the New York Islanders’ second-round pick (Nikita Artamonov) from the Blackhawks in exchange for #27 overall (Marek Vanacker).

Last year, they moved #29 overall (Mason West) to Chicago in exchange for selections #34 (Alexander Zharovsky) and #62 (Ivan Ryabkin), and a fifth-round choice in 2027. They then moved pick #34 (Alexander Zharovsky) and #189 (Andrew MacNiel), one of their sixth-rounders, in exchange for #41 (Semyon Frolov) and #49 (Charlie Cerrato).

In total, Carolina has now made 18 draft-involved trades since the 2023 trade deadline.

The second day of the NHL Draft gets underway at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, and can be watched on NHL Network and ESPN+. Associate General Manager Darren Yorke, who heads the draft for the franchise, is expected to speak to the media following the selections.
