winNYI

The Vegas Golden Knights erased a 2-0 disadvantage and scored four unanswered goals to defeat the New York Islanders, 4-2, on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena. With the win, Marc-Andre Fleury moved into ninth in career wins by a goaltender (424).
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The bulk of the first period transpired without a goal but with 1:30 to play in the frame, Mathew Barzal hit the back of the net to put the Islanders up 1-0. Sixty-eight seconds later, Brock Nelson hit the top corner to give New York a two-goal edge heading into the break. Just before the halfway mark of the second, Brandon Pirri netted his first goal of the season after being recalled Wednesday to cut the Islanders' lead to one goal. Vegas tied the game at 6:22 of the third period when William Karlsson lasered a shot past Thomas Greiss and into the top left corner. Only 1:03 later, Paul Stastny cashed in from the side of the net to lift Vegas to a 3-2 lead. The Golden Knights held off a comeback attempt from the Islanders late in the game and sealed the 4-2 victory when Nate Schmidt launched the puck down the ice into an empty net.

TURNING POINT
At 5:34 of the third period, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare was whistled for holding and the Islanders had a timely opportunity to tie the game on the power play. But a clean penalty kill prevented New York from solving Fleury and the boost from the successful kill powered the Golden Knights as they cinched the win.
THE GOLDEN GOAL
Shortly after Karlsson scored to tie the game, the line of Pirri, Stastny and Reilly Smith went to work to grab the Golden Knights their first lead of the evening. As the puck skittered up the right-wing boards, Nick Holden pinched in from the point to keep the offensive possession alive for Vegas. Smith collected the puck, waited for Jordan Eberle to peel away from him, and attacked the middle of the ice. As Smith bared down on the net, Stastny activated and gained separation from Ryan Pulock and found himself open at the left post. Smith threaded the puck to Stastny cross-crease, and he made no mistake burying his first goal at T-Mobile Arena as a Golden Knight.
