Postgame RAV4: Flyers Blank Bruins, 2-0

Rick Tocchet's Philadelphia Flyers shut out the Boston Bruins, 2-0, in preseason action at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday evening.

Matvei Michkov (1st of the preseason) bagged an early first period goal for a 1-0 lead. The second period was scoreless. Cole Knuble (2nd) added an early third period rebound tally

Joseph Woll earned the win with the 28-save shutout.

1ST PERIOD

The Bruins got an early power play at 1:21. Michkov served a too-many-men on the ice minor for the team.

Michkov hustled up a scoring chance after he exited the box. At 4:02, Michkov potted a rebound that deflected off Porter Martone. Helge Grans got the secondary assist for his initial point shot.

At 8:36, goaltender Michael DiPietro caught Travis Konecny with a high stick. The Flyers generated good puck movement and a couple looks but no goal.

With 3:24 left, Tyson Foerster had a point-blank chance off a Trevor Zegras feed. Sanheim had a chance off the rush at 17:24 on a sequence started by Martone.

2ND PERIOD

Christian Dvorak and Martone had early chances.

At 9:51, Zegras was penalized for an equipment violation. Witb 38 seconds left, Jett Luchanko got called for a hooking minor. Philly killed both ends of the two-man disadvantage.

Frederic Brunet was called for a stick hold on Sean Couturier at 16:18. 

With 19.6 seconds left, Acciari was robbed at the doorstep.

3RD PERIOD

Martone rang a shot off the post to DiPietro's right.

At 2:57, Knuble cleaned up a rebound at the net after Jett Luchanko took it the house and Gaucher kept the puck alive.

Simon Benoit dropped the gloves and defeated Brian Halonen after grappling him down at 5:51.

With 13:10 left in the period, Grebenkin went up the tunnel after absorbing a hit along the boards. He later returned.

Luchanko nearly scored on the next shift. Knuble also had a look.

At 14:09, Michkov came within a whisker of his second goal of the game. The puck hit the post.

Woll made a stop near the goal line with 43.1 seconds on the clock.

POSTGAME RAV4: RAV4 THINGS REVISITED

1. Flyers veterans

For the first time in the preseason, the Flyers dressed most of their veteran roster players in Thursday's game. Saturday's match will be more or less a dress rehearsal for opening night.

2. Injury Report

Nikita Grebenkin dressed for the first time in the preseason. Neither Dan Vladar (upper body) nor Denver Barkey (lower body) dressed for this game. Both are officially day-to-day.

3. Power play 

The Flyers unveiled a new PP1 personnel arrangement. Defenseman Drysdale manned the point with Zegras, Michkov, Foerster, and Martone up front. The Flyers went 0-for-2 on the power play. They were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill including a 5-on-3 kill.

4. Roster battles

Up front, rookie hopeful Knuble remains in the hunt for a roster spot. He impressed in all three preseason games to date as well as last Saturday's scrimmage in Voorhees.
