The off-season was a long one for the New Jersey Devils, but also one where GM Tom Fitzgerald went to work.
In his acquisitions, Fitzgerald held true to his word, improving the defense.
Damon Severson is a player who has been a blue-line staple the last few years and he likes what he sees from this new group being built on the back end.
"It looks promising for sure," Severson said of the changes to the defensive core in the off-season, "Being able to get Murray and Kulikov signed, and then we have some good young prospects, it looks like coming up the pipeline as well, so we're trending in the right direction."
Not only trending in the right direction on the blue line but the team as a whole.
"As long as our returning players like myself can step up and have really good seasons this year, moving forward we're going to start to kind of be a team on the up, we're tired of staying at the bottom. Hopefully, we can work our way up."
