Mason Geertsen Blog

The New Jersey Devils claimed defenseman Mason Geertsen off waivers Sunday.
Geertsen, who was placed on waivers by the New York Rangers, has incredible size (6-foot-4, 227 pounds), and likes to play a tough, physical and gritty game.
Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald has made it a key objective to add size to his defensive corps over the summer. He brought in Dougie Hamilton (6-foot-6, 230 pounds), Ryan Graves (6-5, 220) and Christian Jaros (6-3, 222). Geertsen will add size and strength to the organizational depth at the blue line.

Geertsen, 26, appeared in 20 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League in 2020-21. He notched three goals, five points and 43 penalty minutes.
The left-shot blueliner has six-plus years of experience in the AHL with Hartford, Colorado, San Antonio and Lake Erie. In 297 career AHL contests, he's totaled nine goals, 50 points and 519 penalty minutes.
Geertsen, a fourth-round selection (93rd overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft by Colorado, appeared in five-plus seasons in the Western Hockey League with Edmonton and Vancouver.
