DRAFT: Devils Add Goaltender with Third Round Pick

New Jersey picked goaltender Nicolas Daws 84th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Daws played for Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League over the last three seasons and posted 23-8-6 record in 2019-20. This year Daws led all OHL Goaltender in save percentage (.924) and shutouts (5).
Due to his strong performance, Daws was the inaugural recipient of the Jim Rutherford Trophy, an honor award to the OHL's Goaltender of the Year. To top off his accomplishments, Daws was named an OHL First Team All-Star following the end of the 2019-20 season.

Daws learned what it takes to be on a championship team when he served as the backup goaltender for Guelph during their OHL Championship win in the 2018-19 season. He observed OHL veteran goaltender Anthony Popovich during the team's run.
The newest Devils goaltending prospect holds German-Canadian citizenship but represents Canada in international events. He won Gold at the 2020 World Junior Championship and played two games for Team Canada.
NHL Central Scouting describes Daws as a "very calm, relaxed and composed [goaltender]. Solid and positionally and technically sound. Smart at reading and reacting to situations with efficient and controlled body movements." In addition Central Scouting says he "gives his team a chance to win every game." Central Scouting believes Daws is most similar to Carey Price.
