The Devils have gone 2-0-0 against the Red Wings so far, and look for a series sweep, 3-0-0, which is something they have not done in their team history.
The Devils have a busy week of hosting the Red Wings, visiting the Bruins and hosting the Predators before they head into this weekend's All-Star Break.
"You'd like to finish this week strong, and play real well, try to get some points," head coach John Hynes said on Sunday. "I think we were disappointed in the way we played [Saturday] so it's important that we bounce back with a real strong effort against Detroit."
Tonight's game marks the club's 10th of 16 back-to-back sets this season. The Devils are 5-2-2 in the first games of those back-to-backs.
Hynes will confirm his lineup at 4:15 p.m. when he meets the media prior to the game. One lineup change already in place is forward Blake Coleman drawing in for an injured Brian Gibbons.
Gibbons was placed on injured reserve on Sunday after he sustained a broken thumb against the Flyers. Coleman has been out of the lineup for the past three games as a healthy scratch.
The expectation is that Cory Schneider will be healthy enough to start in goal. Schneider has not started a game since Jan. 13. He has been out sick. Schneider has missed just four games this season.
"I'd like to think I'm pretty durable," Schneider said Sunday. "Since I came into the league, I haven't missed extended periods of time. A week here or there, a couple of games here and there. I'd like to think I've been available a lot since I've come in the league. It's never fun to miss a game, period. It's a strange feeling watching and not being a part of the mix."
Rookie goaltender Ken Appleby remains with the club as a call up, and is expected to be on the bench against Detroit. He takes the spot of Keith Kinkaid, who was also injured against Philadelphia. Kinkaid is out with a groin injury and was placed on Injured Reserve.
