The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired forward Maxim Tsyplakov in a trade with the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Ondrej Palat and New Jersey’s third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and the club’s sixth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Tsyplakov, 27, is in his second NHL season (1g-1a, 27gp), and played in 77 games with the Islanders in 2024-25. The 6’3”, 205lbs. forward has recorded 37 career points (11g-26a) and 45 penalty minutes in 104 career regular-season games. Tsyplakov made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 10, 2024, vs Utah. The left-shot winger recorded seven multi-point games last season, which ranked tied for seventh on the Islanders.
Born on September 19, 1998, Tsyplakov signed with the Islanders as a free agent on May 16, 2024. He is in the first year of a two-year, $4,500,000 million contract ($2,250,000 million AAV), signed on July 25, 2025. Before his professional experience in North America, Tsyplakov spent parts of seven seasons overseas in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) with Spartak from 2017-18 to 2023-24 (63g-58a-121pts in 327gp). While with Spartak, his teammates included Devils prospect defensemen Daniil Orlov and Yegor Zaitsev.
Palat recorded 92 points (38g-54a) with 67 penalty minutes in 248 regular-season games in four seasons with New Jersey, after signing as a free agent on July 14, 2022. He added nine points (3g-6a) in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff contests. Palat signed a five-year, $30,000,000 contract ($6,000,000 million AAV) on July 13, 2022.
