BostonBruins.com - Ohio State's Mason Lohrei has been named Big Ten Third Star of the Week after a successful weekend sweep of LIU. Lohrei was the 58th overall pick during the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He is currently a freshman defenseman at Ohio State where he shines using his 6-foot-4 build and strong puck skills.

On Saturday, he recorded a career-high three assists in Ohio State's 7-2 win over LIU. Saturday's performance only added to what has been already a standout year from Lohrei, as he leads the team in assists with 17 and finds himself in the top 10 of the Big Ten conference for both points and assists. The Bruins prospect is making a name for himself being only the 11th Ohio State Men's hockey player to have registered a plsu-5 rating game since 1999.

Back in 2020, Lohrei spoke about the type of player he is, and it seems his simple style has paid off.
"I think I'm just a pretty simple player overall," said Lohrei. "I like to try to control the game when I'm out there, and when I have the puck."
General manager Don Sweeney sees a player that boasts a number of intriguing skills.
"He has attributes, pace with the puck, offensive blue line confidence, running a power play, the long stick and the ability to defend," said Sweeney when asked about Lohrei back in August.
Lohrei and Ohio State take on Wisconsin on Saturday, January 8th at 8 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
