BostonBruins.com - Trent Frederic potted four goals to propel Team USA to a 9-3 thrashing of the Czech Republic en route to the bronze medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo on Friday night.
The 29th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Frederic opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal late in the first period. He followed up with two second-period tallies to complete his hat trick, before collecting his fourth during a third-period power play to make it 8-2. He was named the team's Player of the Game for his efforts.

"Any time you put the puck in the net, it's obviously a good time," Frederic told the tournament's website. "It's fun. We were having fun out there. It was a tough loss [to Sweden in the semifinals]. We came back and I thought we responded well."

Frederic finished the tournament with five goals in seven games with a plus-3 rating.
"You want to sit in your room and feel sad, but you've still got another game," said Frederic. "You still want to win a medal and that's what we did."

Bruins defense prospect Ryan Lindgren played 21 minutes, 8 seconds in the victory. The 2016 second-round pick was on Team USA's second D pairing for the majority of the tournament and picked up an assist to go along with two penalty minutes in seven games.
Goalie Jeremy Swayman, selected by Boston in the fourth round of last June's Draft, made four saves in just over three minutes of relief on Friday night. The University of Maine netminder also dressed as the backup in Team USA's shootout victory over Canada at the outdoor game at New Era Field.
The United States has now won a medal in three straight World Juniors after capturing the bronze in 2016 and the gold in 2017. It is the first time in tournament history it has accomplished that feat.

Bruins forward prospect Oskar Steen played 17:08 in Sweden's loss to Canada in the gold-medal game. Steen did not register a point, but was an important contributor in Sweden's run to the silver medal. The 2016 sixth-round pick collected two goals - both game-winners - and two assists in seven games with a plus-5 rating and 12 penalty minutes.
