BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, December 14, that the team has placed Matt Beleskey on waivers for purpose of assignment to Providence.
"Matt was placed on waivers with the hope that he will have the opportunity to go to Providence, play in all situations, get his confidence and game back to the level he brought in his first year with the Bruins," said Sweeney. "Matt has been nothing but an exemplary teammate and pro during the time that he has not been in the lineup but we felt playing would be more beneficial to Matt than practicing, especially with the limited practice time available with regards to our schedule."
Beleskey, 29, has appeared in 14 games with Boston this season. The 6-foot, 203-pound forward appeared in 49 games in 2016-17, tallying three goals and five assists for eight points with 47 penalty minutes and a minus-10 rating. In his first season with Boston in 2015-16, Beleskey recorded 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points with 65 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating in 80 games.
Over his nine-year NHL career, Beleskey has skated in 472 games, compiling 75 goals and 82 assists for 157 points with 431 penalty minutes.
The Windsor, Ontario native was originally selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a multi-year contract with Boston as a free agent on July 1, 2015.
