BOSTON -The Boston Bruins and the Boston Bruins Foundation announced today that the Second Annual BFit First Responder Challenge powered by National Grid will take place Sunday, January 28, 2018 at TD Garden. This one of a kind event invites local first responders from all over New England to participate in a course throughout TD Garden. The event takes place to raise awareness around health and wellness of first responders and to support The Hundred Club, Inc., a charity that supports the families of police officers and firefighters who are killed in the line-of-duty. All proceeds of the BFit First Responder Challenge will be donated to The Hundred Club.

In addition to the Police and Fire/EMT divisions, this year's BFit First Responder Challenge will feature a Friends of First Responders division. This new division will allow civilians the chance to raise money and support their local first responders (must be 16 years or older to participate). The event is powered by National Grid as part of the Company's longstanding partnership with first responders and their shared responsibility to keep customers and communities safe during severe storms and related incidents.
Each division will have a different starting time. The Police division will start at 9 a.m. Police participants are encouraged (not required) to wear uniform/vest/duty belt. The Fire/EMT division will start at 10 a.m. Fire/EMT participants are encouraged (not required) to wear turnout gear. The Friends of First Responders Division will start at 11:00 a.m. Times are subject to change based on the number of participants.
There will be three Challenge Course Levels. Level One is attainable for anybody no matter their level of physical fitness. Level Two will push competitors even further. Level three will challenge the most elite competitors. Participants are able to choose which level they would like to participate in at the event.
The winner of the police and fire divisions will be the highest fundraising. The winning team of each division will receive tickets to the Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes game on February 27, 2018, and will be presented with the BFit Cup. Following the BFit First Responder Challenge, the Boston Bruins will host a BFit First Responder Faceoff at the winning police and fire stations, pairing the winning team with a local elementary school to play a street hockey game as part of the celebration.
The Friends of First Responders division will have the opportunity to compete against the First Responders for the highest fundraising individual award. The winner will receive four tickets to the Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes game on February 27, 2018, and will be presented with the BFit Cup at the game.
The BFit First Responder Challenge will also feature kid friendly activities such as a "Touch a Truck" featuring local fire department and police vehicles and an ice resurfacer, as well as a BFit Kid's Combine, and the chance to take a photo with the Bruins mascot, Blades.
