Defeat at Home

The Avalanche lost 6-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Ball Arena on Saturday. Nathan MacKinnon scored twice for Colorado and Brock Nelson added a tally for the Avalanche. Additionally, Cale Makar, Martin Necas, Devon Toews and Brett Kulak all posted an assist.

How It Happened

Toronto's Nick Blankenburg opened the scoring at 3:03 of the first period via a shot from the right slot.

MacKinnon tied the game at 10:46 of the first period with his fourth goal of the season via a shot from the doorstep off the rush.

The Avs took a 2-1 lead at 15:14 of the first period when MacKinnon scored his second goal of the game and fifth of the season via a shot from the high slot after skating around the top of the zone to create space for himself.

William Nylander tied the game with a power-play goal from the doorstep at 6:53 of the second period.

Nelson gave Colorado a 3-2 lead at 12:25 of the middle frame with his second goal of the season via a shot from the left slot after picking up his own rebound.

The Maple Leafs tied the game at 16:47 of the middle frame when Nylander scored his second goal of the contest via a shot from the slot.

Easton Cowan gave Toronto a 4-3 lead at 17:33 of the second period via a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle.

At 12:02 of the third period, Auston Matthews doubled Toronto's lead with a power-play goal via a shot from the right slot.

Matthews gave the Maple Leafs a 6-3 lead with an empty-net goal at 19:21 of the third period.
