Defeat at Home

The Avalanche lost 4-3 to the Edmonton Oilers at Ball Arena on Thursday. Nathan MacKinnon scored his 16th and 17th goals of the season, Logan O'Connor posted his sixth tally of the year, while Mikko Rantanen, Joel Kiviranta, Calvin de Haan, Jonathan Drouin and Devon Toews each record an assist.

How It Happened

O'Connor opened the scoring at 5:17 of the first period when he picked up the puck below the left circle, skated around the crease, and scored from the right doorstep.

At 10:04 of the first period, MacKinnon scored with a wrist shot from the high slot after he received a drop pass from Drouin above the right circle and skated to the slot.

That goal marked the 3,000th the Avs have scored at Ball Arena.

With his second goal of the game, MacKinnon gave the Avs a 3-0 lead at 11:48 when he received Toews' pass in the neutral zone, sent the puck between Evan Bouchard's legs, skated by Bouchard, picked up the puck and scored from the low slot.

Viktor Arvidsson put the Oilers on the board at 19:18 of the first period with a slap shot from the top of the left circle off the rush.

At 6:17 of the second period, Brett Kulak cut the Oilers' deficit to one with a left-point slap shot.

Connor McDavid tied the game at three from the left doorstep at 14:49 of the second period.

The Oilers took a 4-3 lead at 13:05 of the third period when Bouchard scored with a slap shot from the top of the right circle.
