It’s probably a good thing our Monday game has a slightly delayed puck drop here in Boston.

Our game against the Bruins from TD Garden won’t actually start until 7:42pm ET and that extra time should allow fans to find our game on English television.

Monday’s game will be the first of seven Senators games this season that will be available only on Sportsnet+. This isn’t like a usual game aired on Sportsnet, so stick with me here for an explanation.

If you already have a Sportsnet+ subscription, you don’t need to worry. You’ll have access to these exclusive Monday games.

And if you’re a Rogers or Shaw Direct customer who has Sportsnet in your TV package, you will also receive access to this content and do not need to purchase the add-on to stream exclusive Sportsnet+ content.  You just need to use your voice command on your Ignite remote and say, “Show me the Ottawa-Boston game on Sportsnet” and it will take you there.

But if you have a different cable provider, you’re going to need to add a Sportsnet+ package in order to watch our seven Monday night games, starting with this evening’s contest in Boston.

Rogers and Sportsnet have put out a full FAQ for viewers, which you can find here. I highly encourage you to read that FAQ and make sure you know how to access the game this evening. It’s a clear and detailed explanation for everything surrounding the Monday night games on Sportsnet+.

There are a couple of other key points ahead of Monday’s game in Boston.

This game will also be televised in French on TVA Sports, in addition to being carried on radio on TSN 1200 (English) and 104.7 FM (French). So if you have a cable package that includes TVA Sports, you can try and sync up the audio feed from Dean Brown and Gord Wilson via TSN 1200 if an English play-by-play call is what you are seeking.

This latest addition of Sportsnet+ reminds me of when the Senators rolled out pay-per-view games about 20 years ago. It was a short-lived experiment, but it actually spawned a unique idea.

The Senators partnered with local movie theatres to show those games on the big screen because not everybody would have easy access to those pay-per-view events. Would there be an appetite from fans for something similar this season for these Monday night games on Sportsnet+?

Setting up public viewing events require several hurdles to clear – with broadcasters and the NHL – but if that’s something you’d like to see us explore once again, please hit us up with an email to [email protected].

Trivia time: Stephen Halliday scored the game-winning goal in the third period of Saturday night’s regular season opener in Toronto.

Who is the only other player in Sens history to score a third period game-winning goal against the Maple Leafs on opening night?

Answer at the bottom of this column.

Linus Ullmark kicks off Season 2 of Absolute Non Sens podcast

We are excited to roll out the second season of our Absolute Non Sens podcast this week.

This year we’ve lined up Tim Hortons as a presenting sponsor and we’ll have a full slate of guests to roll out on bi-weekly basis throughout the course of the 2026-27 season.

Our first guest this season is Linus Ullmark and he was as engaging, witty and informative as we could have wished. Among the topics we broached with him:

  • How he and his wife Moa named both of their kids after Harry Potter characters.
  • His passion for playing bridge that started when he was a kid.
  • The time Linus nearly electrocuted himself and cut the power to his entire apartment building.
  • How he plays tour guide for friends and family when they visit Ottawa.

We received that last question from a reader named Kylee who submitted her entry via our email address at [email protected].

As a result, we’re going to send Kylee an autographed puck from Linus courtesy of our friends at Dr Pepper. Each week, we’re going to open our Dr Pepper fridge and ‘pepper’ our guest with a question from you.

So if you’ve got a blanket question that you’d love to hear answered by an NHL player, hit us up with an email to [email protected]. You might just win an autographed puck from the player who answers your question.

Media roundup: Looking back at some interesting and fun Senators stories you might have missed over the past seven days.

Brad Mitchell’s EBUG video went viral last week. How did Steve Staios surprise him with that press conference? Our Andrew Wilimek has the answer.

Steve also joined JR and Steve for a wide-ranging interview inside the TSN 1200 studios last week. The general manager gives some added context on injury disclosure, where the team is at in the contention cycle and more.

There were some great pieces written about Thomas Chabot’s captaincy last week.  Wayne Scanlan was at his best with this column for Sportsnet.ca. My favourite line: “Yes, oddly enough, the man who smiles the most in the dressing room is the same guy willing to suffer the most on the ice. Nifty combination, that.”

Chabot mentioned that Patrice Bergeron was one of his role models growing up. So Julian McKenzie reached out to the Bruins legend to get his thoughts on Chabot’s captaincy in Ottawa.

And Michael Andlauer joined AJ and Kenny on TSN 1200 a few hours after Chabot’s captaincy was announced.

Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch went 1-on-1 with Travis Green just ahead of the start of the regular season.

Trivia answer: Stephen Halliday joined Todd White as the only Sens players to score a game-winning goal against the Leafs in the third period of a regular season opener.

White scored his against Curtis Joseph at the 8:18 mark of the third period in the Senators 2001-02 regular season opener in Toronto.
